Beta Game Tester - 5 Rejection Factors
Professional video game testing is not actually that tough. In fact, you can even go so far as to say that it's a simple job which does NOT require too much effort. All you need to do is put the game in, play through it, record the game's problems, then collect a paycheck after you're all done. Seriously, does that seem like a tough job to you?
You Need NOT Apply If...
- You do not possess at least five years gaming experience. In all seriousness, you won't have to be a gaming master who's mastered every video game out there. Nevertheless, you do have to have basic understanding of the gaming field and how game development works. More experience and knowledge you've got, the better off you will be.
- You aren't at least 18 years of age. Several companies have been known to hire (with restrictions) gamers that are 16 years old. On the other hand, this is typically a rare occurrence in the world of professional beta game testing.
- You do not have a next-gen system and/or a high-end gaming PC. Having both is better, but one or the other will do. If you are not up-to-date with gaming technology, you do not stand a chance.
- You don't have "credentials". Submitting a sheet of paper that says "I wish to be a beta game tester, call me" is not the way to do it. You will need a professional looking resume which lists your gaming experience, your references (if you have any), and why you would make an effective tester. Keep in mind, no resume means you will always hear "GO AWAY".
- You know practically nothing of proper grammar. Filling out & submitting bug and glitch reports is one of the top duties of a beta game tester. Therefore, a good comprehension -- and some might even say mastery -- of proper grammar is required. If you are unable to write in complete sentences using proper punctuation, then the programmers may not understand what you're talking about or how to locate the bugs & glitches you've found.
